Blue Light Therapy for acne?

May 20th, 2012

Question by llamafarm2002: Blue Light Therapy for acne?
I am considering blue light therapy for acne, but I have a few questions about it. How often do you need the treatment to keep acne away? once a month? Once a week? Also, how effective is it? I’ve heard you can get the same results from a tanning bed, but that scares me because I don’t want to damage my skin the same way a tanning bed would! Is it true that blue LED treatments are just the same as the UV rays in tanning salons?

NOTE: If you are going to suggest any over the counter or prescription acne medicine PLEASE DO NOT bother!!!! If I wanted to know about Proactive, I would ASK a question about it!!! Save your time and only answer if you know about what I’m asking about! I want to know ONLY about Blue and red light acne therapy. You will NOT get points for an unrelated answer!

I think at least 7 treatments are needed. There should be this info on their website. You may need treatments once every few months after you initial treatments.

Try some Burt’s Bees Shea Butter Hand Creme. It softens them and heals them so they don’t look bad. I have a scar on my left hand that could’ve been made worse, but the Shea Butter healed it and it unless you realllly stare at my hand, you can’t tell.

Home remedies for cystic acne that can actually produce positive results are sometimes hard to find. Holistic acne remedies can sometimes be used with great success depending on the severity of cystic acne boils being treated. A natural acne cure is sometimes used in place of, or in conjunction with, clinically approved methods for severe acne treatment.

Acne vulgaris is another name for acute cystic acne. The face is the area of the body that is most affected by cystic acne. Just under the surface of the skin, soft lumps form. These are filled with a fluid that contains bacteria, dead cells, and white blood cells. These soft lumps, when they erupt, are often referred to as boils. Trying to find a treatment plan which doesn’t include expensive prescription drugs or even a day at the health-care professional can sometimes have great results, depending on the individual situation.

Selecting which home remedies for cystic acne to implement can be confusing. Below are a few homemade strategies for cystic acne treatment that other people are finding helpful.

Sea Salt Combined With Baking Soda is One of a Few Home Remedies for Cystic Acne

One of the holistic remedies that has been recognized to help cystic acne makes use of a pair of standard home ingredients and involves a mix of sea salts and baking soda. Not one but two different methods are usually tried using this mixture.

The first is a once weekly treatment plan where a little bit of sea salt and baking soda are combined together with mineral water produce a thick substance. The liquid is then applied to the affected regions and utilised as a gentle cleanser. Be sure you rinse thoroughly.

The next home remedy calls for combining baking soda and sea salts with a very small level of water to form a paste. The paste is then placed on individual inflamed boils and allowed to relax the boil for 1 to 2 minutes. A lot of people use this method for healing acne scars, too. Wash carefully.

Additional Home Remedies for Cystic Acne

Another choice of popular treatment uses apple cider vinegar in the form of facial skin toner. It is believed the normal pH balance of our skin is often stabilized with this particular practice.

Egg-whites in many cases are used as a facial mask in many skincare regimens and cystic acne is certainly no exception. The white of a single egg is normally whipped for One minute using a fork or whisk. The mixture is then applied to the facial area and neck, taking good care to avoid the eyes, the nasal passages, the lips and mouth area. The mask needs to be allowed to dry fully and then be very carefully removed by applying a warm, damp towel to the face. Always rinse thoroughly, being especially mindful to avoid all mucous membranes. Using egg whites as a valuable skin treatment is not restricted to this kind of home acne care.

Take Preventative Measures

As is also true with a lot of skin complaints, prevention is able to go a long way. One of the simple things everyone can do as precautionary methods is to cleanse the facial area regularly, taking care to be gentle and to treat the skin with only non-irritating cleaners and treatments. Sweating can contribute to pore blockage. To prevent this, using headbands and clean skin towels during workouts or sports activities is usually recommended. The concept of “hands off” really should become the typical saying of most acne sufferers. Squeezing an acne cyst increases the chance of much deeper infection and increases the possibility of leaving behind irreversible scars.

Trying various natural home remedies will certainly generate at least a number of that really work for everybody. With a short period of experimentation, most people can find beneficial treatments for their cystic acne.

About the Author

One final tip I’d like to share with you is, for best results when using home remedies for cystic acne treatment, make an appointment with a dermatologist to help you plan the most effective course of action. To your health! ~John at cysticacnetreatmentsite.com

Believe me I know what it’s like to be on a mission and finally feel the freedom when my mission was accomplished.

Here’s what I have learned from the best acne spot treatment that cured my acne PERMANENTLY:

While there is no one acne cyst treatment that works best for all cases, all of the treatment options for this more severe type of acne must be explored with the guidance of a dermatologist. This is because cystic acne is so deep in the skin and so riddled with inflammation that it does not respond very well to topical creams and over the counter treatments.

In fact, for more severe cystic acne conditions even oral prescription medications are not enough to stop the extremely painful outbreaks.

Do You Have Cystic Acne?

The first determination that needs to be made is whether you are really suffering from the cystic form of acne. There are three things to look at to make this determination:

1. The presence of nodules on the skin.

2. The presence of skin inflammation.

3. The presence of large cysts.

Nodules are hard lumps that remain underneath the skin, rather than rising up like pus-centered whiteheads. Cysts are similar in that they remain underneath the skin but they feel softer and are filled in the center with pus. Since they are underneath the skin and can take root very deep, they are not very responsive to treatments placed on the outer surfaces of the skin.

Inflammation shows itself by reddening and swelling the skin and possibly giving a warm feeling to the outer layers of skin. It often comes naturally with the deep-rooted cysts and nodules and also makes a more severe case of acne less responsive to typical over the counter treatment options.

If you have regular nodules that are quite large but no cysts, than chances are you have another more severe form of acne called nodular acne.

Acne Cyst Treatment Options

You will not be able to effectively treat or prevent cystic acne flare-ups without consulting with a dermatologist. Seeing your doctor can get you referred to a good local dermatologist who will diagnose your condition and go over all of the available acne cyst treatment options with you. They will also be able to guide you toward the least invasive options that will be effective for your condition in particular.

You have to go into acne cyst treatment with realistic expectations. While there are treatments which can get rid of the cysts and the pain that comes with them, it may take some time to find which treatment options will work best for you.

The starting point for acne cyst treatment is often with oral prescription medications. You may be given an antibiotic at first to see if the bacteria inside the cysts can be killed off, but if you have a more serious case of cystic acne you may need to a more potent prescription that comes with more serious side effects.

If your acne does not respond to medication, a dermatologist may be able to recommend more demanding acne cyst treatment options such as injecting Cortisol directly into the lesions or surgical draining.

The larger the area of skin affected by the acne and the more inflammation involved, the harder it is to find acne cyst treatment plans that work long term. Have patience and work closely with your dermatologist to try everything possible before giving up completely. In some very severe cases you may have to accept improvements rather than expecting a complete cure from cystic acne.

Of all the acne light treatments available in recent years, none has hogged the limelight so much than photodynamic therapy. Rapidly gaining more popularity everyday, short contact photodynamic therapy has become the new miracle treatment for people suffering from moderate to severe acne. Has a truly effective treatment for acne finally arrived at last?

What is Photodynamic Therapy?

Photodynamic therapy or PDT is a safe, non-invasive acne treatment that uses light sources in combination with the application of a photosensitizing substance, usually 5-aminolevulinic acid or ALA. 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) is applied to the surface of the skin, making the skin extra sensitive to light. After the photosensitizer is removed, light treatment is then given.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration earlier approved photodynamic therapy for cancer treatment. PDT is used a great deal today for the treatment of actinic keratosis and is being considered to be a dependable and effective method to treat acne.

PDT fights acne by reducing the size of the skin’s sebaceous glands. This will greatly diminish the oil content inside the pores, which will, in effect, reduce blackheads and whiteheads. For people with moderate or severe acne that just won’t go away through conventional topical or oral preparations, this could just be the one for you.

The ALA-PDT combination can also destroy the P. acnes bacteria that trigger acne attacks and promote the normal sloughing off of dead keratinized skin cells within pores and follicles. It also appears to enhance the overall texture of the skin, and could very possibly remove scars left by acne.

Photodynamic Treatment Procedure

Although a lot of patients who volunteered in early test runs during the introduction of PDT complained of tolerable to severe pain, the procedures used nowadays are nearly pain-free, owing to short contact therapy.

Short contact PDT treatments usually begin with microdermabrasion, to scrub off excess dead skin cells on the treated surface and to maximize ALA penetration. The ALA photosensitizer is then applied and given 15 minutes to an hour to set. After it sets, the photosensitizer is taken off and the skin’s surface is treated, usually, with blue light.

A program consisting of three to five treatments is normally done at a two to four-week intervals, depending on the severity of the patient’s acne. Patients can readily see some results right after the initial treatment.

PDT can be employed simultaneously with other acne preparations like salicylic acid or topical antibiotics.

The ALA-PDT acne treatment raves and reviews show a lot of satisfied users. Many patients reported substantial reduction in acne breakouts, enhancement of skin texture, and a marked decrease in acne scarring. Several users even claimed 50 percent to 75 percent of their acne were cleared. Photodynamic therapy can also be effective in treating stubborn or severe cystic acne. Their results can be similar to those who had been treated with Accutane.

The Side Effects of Photodynamic Therapy

Short contact photodynamic therapy does have a few side effects such as redness and peeling of the treated area, which have been described by patients as like having sunburn. It gave very little discomfort and went away quickly.

PDT costs more than your usual acne treatments and is rarely covered by insurance. On the other hand, a systemic acne treatment like Accutane has severe side effects that photodynamic therapy does not.
